The exploration of how perception creates

reality is one of the few consistent

threads you will ever be able to pull out

of Michelle Sutherland’s artistic biography. 

Although originally educated in

Archeological Art Conservation, Michelle

has also held such titles as Animation Special

Effects Artist, Illustrator and Web Designer. 

For the past two decades Michelle has turned her

restoration skills to repairing damaged relationships,

rather than broken artifacts - as a mediator, human

rights investigator and conflict resolution trainer.

Whether looking through the lens of a camera,

or someone’s limiting belief system – Michelle tries to

unleash the full dynamic, creative and vibrant potential of her immediate surroundings by studying perceptual distortions. 

This quest has led her most

recently to exploring the

hyper-realistic world of HDR

(high dynamic range) photography – particularly its potential for new

artistic expression.

A BFA (Back From Away), Michelle has returned home to Nova Scotia to capture in pixels and paint the coastal scenes that have always captivated her maritime soul.
